If there’s a place where you can find good weather the whole year is Tenerife. We prefer to go there in the cold seasons so we can enjoy a bit of sun and beach for some time. Last year, we went to Tenerife with our little ones for a week, this is time enough to enjoy and see the entire island.
Tenerife belongs to the Canary Islands which are an archipelago formed by seven main islands. Its climate and beautiful attractions make Tenerife one of the best tourist destinations for families. Here you’ll find our top 5 places to visit in Tenerife with children:
1.- Teide National Park: The main attraction in Tenerife is the Mount Teide, the third tallest volcano in the world. The access to the peak requires a free permit which has to be booked in advance, you can do it here (we recommend to book it around two months early). If you can’t get the tickets or don’t want to get to the peak, there’s a cable car which leads you almost to the top of the volcano and you will have fantastic views from there too. Due to the altitude of the volcano children under 2 years old cannot go to the top of the volcano, if you’re in this situation, like we were, we recommend to get close to it by car, just the road to it has amazing views. Remember to wear a jacket to climb to the Teide as there is 3.718 meters high and the cold can be felt while you go up.
2.- Loro Parque: which means ‘parrot park’, is the most famous zoo park in Spain. It started as a parrot paradise and it has developed into one of the biggest zoos in Europe. Our daughter loved it as there are many shows where you can see dolphins, orcas, sea lions and of course parrots. You can book in advance here.
3.- Drago Milenario: In the town of Icod de los Vinos we find the Ancient Drago Tree. It is 18 meters high and is thousands of years old. You can find the Drago tree in the Drago park where you have to pay around 5€ to enter. It’s quite stunning to see your children near the tree as it is so huge!
Apart from enjoying the beaches and good weather of Tenerife, you can see there’s much more to do there with children. What else could you add? Tell us all about it!
