When you think of Spain many families will decide to just take a beach holiday, even more if they are travelling with young children. We are going to show you why a city holiday is also a very good option to enjoy with your family, especially if you travel to a city like Barcelona.
Barcelona is the perfect location because of its diversity, you can be in the beach in the morning and in the centre of a great high street shopping area in the afternoon. You can find parks for your children to play or go to the theatre or museum for a more cultural experience.
We are going to tell you about the 5 places we think you can’t miss when visiting Barcelona with your children:
Nieves and her big belly in Parc Güell |
1.- Parc Güell: It is one of Gaudi’s master pieces. It is a spectacular park for all the family to enjoy. You will not find swings here but it is full of magic from the dragon that guards the entrance to the terrace with great views over the city.
2.- Tibidabo: Set on a mountain top, you can find the Tibidado Amusement Park. It has great history as it opened its doors in 1901 and still today is a great place for the locals to spend a day out enjoying the rides, plus next door is the wonderful Sagrat Cor Cathedral with a statue that resembles the Christ the Redeemer in Corcobado, Rio de Janeiro.
Cosmocaixa |
3.- Cosmocaixa: It is a great way to spend your morning with the kids. It’s a science museum where there is plenty of interaction so everyone enjoys learning. There is also a reproduction of a rain forest inside which all the kids really enjoy as it has live animals.
4.- Parc de la Ciutadella: This is one of the most popular parks in the city centre, and is right next to the zoo so there is loads of atmosphere as people walk through it. There is a lake, and different historic buildings like the old arsenal of the city which is now the headquarters for the parliament of Catalunya.
5.- Sagrada Familia: Of course everyone knows about the famous unfinished cathedral and it’s definitely a must because of his magnificence and the beautiful stonework in his facade but you must be thinking...is this fun for my kids? Well you will be glad to know that there are specific tours for children to visit the inside and is well worth having a go.
Try and combine some of these visits with your schedule or if you can fit them all in, it's well worth it!
